JGP’s technical assistance (TA) empowers youth and women-owned businesses in Kenya with demand driven, simple, yet comprehensive business skills training to address factors that negatively impact their business performance, management and operations and their ability to access credit and grow from informal to near commercial enterprises.

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Approach

Pre-lending TA

To assist the enterprise in becoming investment ready along with a focus on personal development and mental resilience to help the entrepreneurs navigate challenges effectively.

Post-lending TA (individualized mentorship)

Targeted towards mitigating operational risks or pursuing growth and expansion opportunities that enable the business to move into higher growth models.

Reach to date

  • Over 120,000 micro-enterprises have received pre-lending TA, with 78% being youth-led and 64% women-led.

  • Over 6,000 micro-enterprises have received post-lending TA through individualized mentorship, with the majority being youth-led businesses.

To support MSMEs in building growth-oriented and sustainable business models through specialized interventions, including but not limited to

  • Market Linkages: Connecting MSMEs with new market opportunities to expand their reach.

  • Regulatory Support: Providing guidance on navigating regulatory requirements and compliance.

  • Group Dynamics: Enhancing teamwork, collaboration, and efficiency within MSMEs.

  • Digitization: Promoting the adoption of digital tools and technologies to improve operations.

  • Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG): Encouraging responsible business practices for long-term sustainability.
